Radio personality and Universal Life Church Minister, Don Bleu announced a Sadie Hawkins Day contest this morning (Valentines Day) for women listeners who are tired of waiting for their men to pop the matrimonial question. One lucky couple will be selected by popular votes at Star 101.3's website and they will be married in a special ceremony broadcast live from the Broadway Grill in Burlingame on Friday, February 29. Sadie Hawkins Day, an American folk event, made its debut in Al Capp's Li'l Abner comic strip in 1937 and over the years it became a woman empowering rite at high schools and colleges where the females take the initiative by inviting the man or boy of their choice out on a date. Star 101.3's Sadie Hawkins Day contest takes this concept to a whole new level with Don Bleu marrying a couple during a live radio broadcast at the Broadway Grill and then sending them on a deluxe Honeymoon in Hawaii. A native of Minnesota, Don began his radio career during college when a friend encouraged him to stop selling shoes and instead get into radio where he has been ever since. In 2005, Don celebrated 25 years of broadcasting in the Bay Area. He can be heard every morning from 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Star 101.3 FM.
